Since the birth of Carros de Foc in the late 1990s, by the guards of the refuges of the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, the rise of mountain treks has been increasing. Then came Cavalls al Vent , the Senda de Camile, La Porta del Cel and a non-stop series of stage treks.
Beyond the great classic and emblematic mountain crossings such as the Carros de Foc, the Transpyrenees, La Porta del Cel and Cavalls al Vent, we can find an endless series of stage routes in the Catalan Pyrenees: the Tour of Canigó , Muntanyes de Llibertat , the Travessa dels Tres Refugis , the Route of the Hidden Lakes , the Pass'Aran , the Ruta de l'Ermità , Muntanyes Mágiques , the Camí dels Bons Homes , the Camí de l'Últim Cathar , the Camí Oliba , etc.
But if you want to take a different route, outside the commercial circuits, in Muntanya i Natura you will find

Level of mountain crossings
So that you can choose the most suitable trek for your level, we have grouped the routes into 4 categories, taking into account the physical demand, technical difficulty, comfort of accommodation, weight of the backpack and commitment (for more information, see "Frequently Asked Questions "):
“Luxury” initiation level

If it's your first mountain trek, if you want to sleep comfortably, if you want to see if you like trekking, this is your option! Treks for hikers who want to discover the territory in comfort, sleeping comfortably in the villages along the route and eating well, carrying a backpack with a maximum weight of about 6 kg. Stages that usually do not exceed 16 km or 800 meters of accumulated positive elevation gain, exceptionally 1000 meters.
Basic initiation level

If it's your first mountain trek, if you've never slept in a refuge, if you want to see if you like trekking, this is your option! 2 or 3 day treks between refuges, where we carry a backpack with spare clothes, a sleeping bag, water and something to snack on (between 6 – 8 kg in weight), and we have breakfast and dinner at the refuge with the possibility of recharging ourselves with a picnic for lunch. Stages that usually do not exceed 16 km or 800 meters of accumulated positive elevation gain, exceptionally 1000 meters.
Intermediate Advanced level

If you have done a high mountain trek before, if you like sleeping in a refuge, if you are not afraid to carry your backpack for more than two days in a row and you are in good physical shape, this is your level! Treks of more than one day between refuges, where we carry a backpack with spare clothes, a sleeping bag, water and something to snack on (between 6 – 8 kg in weight), and we have breakfast and dinner at the refuge with the possibility of providing ourselves with a picnic for lunch. Stages that do not usually exceed 20 km, nor 1500 meters of accumulated positive elevation gain, exceptionally more.
High level Expert

If you have already done a high mountain trek before, but are looking for something different, more authentic and in contact with nature, and you are not afraid of the weight of the backpack, this is what you are looking for! Self-sufficient treks, of 2 or more days, with a camping tent, free shelter or bivouac, where we carry everything we need in our backpack (between 12 – 15 kg of weight). Stages that do not usually exceed 15 km, nor 1500 meters of accumulated positive elevation gain.
